- Supply, a startup that launched in 2015, is the most popular single edge razor in Kickstarter history.
- By using a single blade, the Single Edge cuts hairs at skin level, compared to multi-blade razors that cut hairs under skin level, which causes irritation.
- Its unique design is the answer to getting smooth shaves and saving money on replacement razors or subscription boxes.
- I tested the Supply Single Edge Starter Kit and got the closest, most comfortable shave ever and didn't get a single razor bump.
Companies that make fancy multi-blade contouring razors and high-tech electric razors have conditioned many men into thinking they can achieve a closer, smoother, or easier shave by spending big bucks — but that's not the case at all. Single blade razors are actually a better way to for two main reason: they provided excellent shaves without razor bumps and are far more affordable.
Single blade razors are starting to make a come back, but for plenty of guys, the fixed blade from their grandpa's razor has scared them away from trying it. Well, now there's finally a solution: The Supply Single Edge Razor.
Founded in 2015, Supply became the most crowdfunded single edge razor in history thanks to its unique design that made the blade seem less intimidating and more intuitive to use. By updating the classic safety razor with a modern shape and in-hand feel, it combines non-irritating benefits of single edge razors with the comfort and precision of what would be considered a traditional razor today.
Basically, it's just like your grandpa's razor, but in the shape of something you're probably more comfortable with.
What makes the Supply Single Edge Razor so special is it's ability to cut hairs level with the skin, compared to multi-blade razors that cut hairs below the skin — a guaranteed formula for razor bumps and skin irritation.
I've used traditional multi-blade razors with horrible results, so when I learned about Supply, I was excited to give it a try. The brand sent over latest 2.0 version of the Single Edge Starter Kit and it has made a huge difference in my experience shaving with razors.
The kit comes with the Single Edge Razor, a 20-pack of American-made razor blades, custom shave settings for different skin sensitivities and hair lengths, a Silvertip Synthetic shave brush, and Supply's Ultra Lather Shaving Cream and Healing Post Shave.
Before using the kit, my initial impression was how well made and sturdy the razor was. It's constructed with solid stainless steel and weighs a little bit less than an iPhone. The weight gives it a solid feel in-hand and a sense of more control when shaving, compared to flimsy store-bought razors. Stainless steel also means that it's easy to clean and will never rust.
In the past, I've been able to achieve super smooth shaves with multi-blade razors, but dreadful razor bumps usually follow after a day or so when hairs start to grow back. I quickly got the hang of the Supply Single Edge Razor and enjoyed using it, but it officially passed my test when I didn't get any razor bumps over the next few days.
One thing I really appreciate about the razor is that you have the ability to switch between three settings — the standard Classic, Mild for sensitive skin and shorter hair, and Aggressive for not so sensitive skin and longer hair. I used the Mild setting and still got a smooth shave, which further proved the point that four or five blades aren't needed for a close shave.
For the shaving cream and post shave, I went with the Arenella Coast scent. It uses a fusion of bergamot, oakmoss, and cedar essential oils. The brand describes the fragrance as being reminiscent of "a stroll down the coastline of Protovenere, a dreamy Italian town perched on the Gulf of Poets' western promontory." I'm not an aromatics expert, nor have I been to Italy, but I would describe it as a refreshingly natural smell that's not overbearing like most artificial shaving creams. I like the post shave a lot because gives a soothing feeling and doesn't burn like most products do after a multi-blade shave.
In addition to providing the perfect shave, the Single Edge design will save you money. If you've ever wondered why replacement razors or shaving subscription boxes are so expensive, it's because you're paying for extra blades you don't really need. The injector-style single blade is thicker, sharper, built better than any multi-blade design, and subsequently lasts longer. The included 20-pack is enough to last six months, and when you do run out, you can buy another 20-pack for just $10. You could easily spend the same amount on a monthly basis with most subscription services.
If you're looking for an easy and affordable way to get a smooth shave without razor bumps, the Supply Single Edge Razor is for you. You can pick up the Single Edge Razor for $79, but I strongly recommend the Starter Kit to totally enhance your shaving experience.
