In the Dempsey household, good hair is a family affair.
Patrick Dempsey, the "McDreamy" former Grey's Anatomy star and two-time Sexiest Man Alive has long been known for his wavy mane of unruly locks. His hair even made its way on to Entertainment Weekly's best entertainment of the 2000s list.
So when Dempsey showed up in his hair-forward style in New York on Tuesday for the Atlantic's People v Cancer conference, sporting a well-groomed head of messy salt-and-pepper curls, Insider couldn't resist asking if he had any hair care tips to share.
"Well, we have a new hair care product coming out," the actor said, referencing his wife's online brand of beauty products.
Jillian Dempsey, a longtime celebrity makeup artist who's been married to the actor for 20 years, already sells her own brand of organic eye and cheek shades, as well as beauty brushes and jewelry online. This December, she'll add a men's hair product to the mix.
"I'm very proud of my wife," Dempsey said.
"As you should be!" one of his handlers quickly said of Dempsey's wife Jillian, who's done makeup for stars including Jennifer Aniston and Emilia Clarke.
In 2015, Jillian filed for divorce from her husband of 15 years. Dempsey later told People that the idea of losing his wife felt "scary," and that "Jill and I decided it was time to work on our issues and improve."
Through more open communication and prioritizing the relationship, the pair decided to stick together, Dempsey told People.
These days, the couple is also collaborating professionally.
"We had a great time as a family working on this together," Dempsey said. "We're all in the campaign."
The Dempsey's twin sons, Sullivan and Darby, are featured on the website, apparently donning the new pomade. (The couple's elder daughter Talula is not in the picture.)
The product, a hair pomade called "The Roadie," is available for pre-order for $28 online ahead of its December 1 release. It's a mix of argan oil, beeswax, and other sticky ingredients designed for anyone searching for a characteristically Dempsian wave.
You can almost hear the actor's voice when you read the website description of the new product:
You know those times you want your hair to have that cool, piecey thing going on? Like you were somewhere salty and windy —and your hair just looks great and textured? I love that. But it's not like we can run around the shores of the Pacific Northwest every time we want it. So I made something to fake it.
Dempsey said the hair care idea has been something that the family has been "wanting to do" for a while now.
"We were just like, you know what? Let's just do it," he said.
